Whether it’s too big, too tiny, or just feels off, scale has a huge impact on how a wallpaper behaves in a room. It’s one of the most overlooked details, but trust me, it can make or break the vibe of a space.

Imagine a big leafy design blown up so each leaf is the size of your head vs. the same design at a teeny-tiny scale with leaves the size of your pinky. They’ll read completely differently in a space, even if the colours are identical.

Minimal furniture or decor where the wallpaper can lead

But… It’s Not a Strict Rulebook

Here’s the truth, scale is as much about feeling as it is about size.

A big bold pattern in a tiny WC might feel too much, or it might feel like a little jewel box of joy.A delicate print in a large hallway could feel underwhelming, or just the calming whisper the space needs.

That’s why I always recommend ordering a sample first. You’ll see how the pattern actually feels in your space, with your light, your furniture, your energy. Nothing beats that real-life test.

How to Test Wallpaper Pattern Scale Like a Pro

Stick up a sample (masking tape is your friend)
Step back. Look at it from across the room.
View it at different times of day. Natural light changes everything.
Trust your gut. If it feels wrong, it probably is. And if it makes you smile? You’ve nailed it.
